The power of volunteering
However, his determination and commitment to making a difference led him to volunteer for Stagenhoe Park, one of Brainkind’s services.
Edwin has been working in the grounds of Stagenhoe Park for 2 years.
Despite walking for over two hours on his first visit, he arrived with a smile and a willingness to contribute. With the help of our Spanish-speaking staff, we communicated effectively and explained what volunteering with us would involve.
Since joining the team, Edwin has been volunteering three days a week, working hard on the grounds of Stagenhoe Park. The grounds look much better – we are incredibly grateful for his contributions to the people we support.
It is inspiring to see the impact that volunteering can have on individuals and their communities. Edwin’s story is a testament to the power of giving back and finding a sense of purpose.
Edwin’s volunteering has definitely benefited Brainkind staff, the people we support, and their families; it is important to recognise what he gets out of volunteering, too, and the benefits he has gained as well (a sense of worth, a routine, and a sense of normality).
These benefits are invaluable and contribute to his overall well-being and integration into the community.
Edwin’s wife has also joined our team at Stagenhoe Park, obtained her food hygiene qualification, and now volunteers alongside our kitchen staff.
Edwin’s story is a really good example of the power of volunteering. It shows how volunteering benefits an organisation and can provide people with a sense of purpose, belonging, and stability.
I am very grateful that I can help Stagenhoe and give back to the community. It is a pleasure, and it helps me get out of the hotel and receive love from the people at Stagenhoe:Edwin
