They are all taking on the iconic challenge to raise money which will make a difference for people with a brain injury and neurological conditions. We can’t wait to cheer them on!
These amazing people are hard at work training for the big day on Sunday, 26 April. They took some time out to let us know why they chose to fundraise for Brainkind, and how their training is going.
Álvaro is pictured above on the left.
Álvaro, who is originally from Madrid, told us how the the course is extra special for him: “I’ve been living in London for many years, and the route starts close to where I lived during my first year in the city, near North Greenwich, which makes it feel quite personal.
“I started running during the COVID years as a way to stay active, and it slowly turned into something much bigger.
“Since then I’ve kept pushing myself with new challenges and setting bigger goals.
Why choose Brainkind? Alvaro wanted to run for a charity connected to neurological conditions and brain health. He told us:
“On a personal level, my grandmother, Victoriana, lived with Alzheimer’s, which made me more aware of how devastating neurological conditions can be for individuals and their families. Supporting Brainkind felt like a meaningful way to take on a personal challenge while helping raise awareness and funds for an important cause.”
Álvaro’s training has been going well so far: “I currently run three times a week with a mix of interval sessions, an easy recovery run, and a long run at the weekend, gradually increasing the challenge each week.”

Daisy is pictured above, second from left.
Daisy is a physiotherapy student, and chose to run for Brainkind after completing two clinical placements within neurorehabilitation. Daisy told us that she’s enjoying the training so far!
“I have always enjoyed running, but this will be my first marathon.”
Why choose Brainkind? Daisy said: “The work that Brainkind does to help individuals after brain injuries is inspiring, and I am keen to specialise in neuro physiotherapy when I graduate.”

Gilles is pictured above, third from left.
Gilles is a doctor and intensive care anaesthetist. Retired for a few months, he told us how he now has more time to train!
Gilles told us: “For me, running the London Marathon is very important, because of the great atmosphere, running in a beautiful town, and because my son will be there too.”
Why choose Brainkind? “My mother and my father-in-law have neurological troubles. As a doctor, I see the impact that neurological conditions have on people’s lives.”

Joe is pictured second from right.
We’re delighted that Joe has chosen to
Why choose Brainkind? Joe and his family have a personal motivation for choosing a brain injury charity, after his wife had a brain injury. Joe told us: “In December of 2023, my wife Flo suffered a subdural hematoma. It was a life-threatening bleed on her brain that left her unable to speak or use her hands, bringing huge amounts of worry and concern to everyone who knows her, especially our wonderful sons, Ignatius and Cosmo.
Flo overcame enormous challenges after her brain injury. Joe told us: “Flo is still experiencing hangover effects from her brain injury and she is doing everything she can to make a full recovery. She suffers from chronic fatigue; she struggles with her speech; and she often feels confused.”
Flo grew up in south-east London, close to the start of the marathon route – so it’s even more special for the family.
Joe said: “It’s all about celebrating the strength, resilience and determination that makes her the wonderful woman she is.”

Cecilia is pictured on the right.
Cecilia is running independently, having achieved a place through the ballot.
Why choose Brainkind? Cecilia has chosen to fundraise for Brainkind, in memory of her cousin Rachel, who we supported at our Shinewater Court service in Eastbourne.
Rachel sadly passed away last year, and Cecilia told us: “Rachel was a resident of Shinewater Court for the last three years of her life and received such compassionate care from the team there.
“The care she received and the warmth of the team, is what made Shinewater Court such a special place to Rachel and her family.”
