Celebrating our colleagues at our Recognising Excellence Awards Ceremony

We were honoured to celebrate our award winners at our annual Recognising Excellence Awards Ceremony.

Our Recognising Excellence Awards are awarded to individual colleagues or teams who have excelled in their work and truly lived our organisational values.

Congratulations to our amazing CEO Award winners

Our Interim CEO, Chris Askew, announced the winners of a very special accolade – the CEO Award.

We’d like to say a huge congratulations to our winners! Well done to Michelle Bailey, Service Manager at Fen House, and Larene Bentley, Financial Controller.

We were delighted to have Michelle and Larene with us on the day, along with Zoriana Kozankevych and Elizabeth Wilce, who were also nominated.

On presenting the awards, Chris said how hard it had been for him and our Chair, Kathryn Greenberg, to choose a winner, and that all our nominees were outstanding and worthy of winning. If we could have done, we would have given the award to all four!

Our nominees were put forward by members of the Leadership team, and it was inspiring to hear why they had been nominated.

Michelle Bailey – Service Manager, Fen House – winner

Michelle was nominated for her exceptional dedication, leadership, and transformational impact at Fen House. She has delivered outstanding results.

Larene Bentley – Financial Controller – winner

Larene was nominated for her compassion and drive – she always gives 110% and is a huge advocate for the organisation’s purpose.

Larene is hard working, diligent and passionate about doing the right thing, all of which make her a great role model. She shows heart and commitment to the team, and is a leader who puts people first – actively supporting the team to develop solutions and grow.

One of her colleagues described her as ‘an absolute legend who supports us fully’.

Zoriana Kozankevych – Senior People Services Administrator – nominee

Zoriana was nominated for her exceptional commitment, sustained contribution, and the consistently outstanding impact she has made across Brainkind.

Zoriana demonstrates deep knowledge of HR policy, compliance, and cross-functional working, tirelessly supporting colleagues and ensuring the smooth running of complex processes. She touches every single People Services process and project in some way, shape or form.

Zoriana has been described as ‘the glue that holds us all together’ and is a fundamental, respected member of the People Services team.

Elizabeth Wilce – Program Manager, Brain Injury Linkworker Service – nominee

Elizabeth has dedicated her nearly thirty-year career at Brainkind to improving access to neurorehabilitation for all; to extending person-centred neurorehabilitation to previously under-represented groups and providing care for everyone who needs it – not just those who can easily access it.

She has played an instrumental role in researching, developing, and leading Brainkind’s award-winning Brain Injury Linkworker Service since 2012, building an award-winning team.

Elizabeth has secured funding and long-term contracts, and raised awareness, working with the wider team to evaluate evidence and contribute to the national evidence base.

Because of Elizabeth’s work, links were made between brain injury and domestic abuse survivors. This ultimately led to the scoping and the organisational decision to commit to further research on Brain Injury and Domestic Abuse – which developed into our Too Many to Count report

Long Wervice Award winners

Our Long Service Award recipients have reached some important anniversaries with us over the last year, and we were delighted to be able to celebrate their incredible milestones.

Earlier this year, Ashley Murfitt, Administrator in Recruitment and Training at Stagenhoe celebrated 40 years with us at our Stagenhoe service.

Reflecting on her time at Brainkind, she said:

The most rewarding part of my job is seeing our residents. I really enjoy covering reception and listening to the residents enjoying therapy sessions with the recreational team and their interactions, to hear them laughing and having fun, their faces lighting up when they see the therapy dogs visit. It is an honour to come into their home and be part of the Stagenhoe family.

Similarly to Ashley, we were delighted to be joined by many colleagues from across Brainkind who were also  celebrating decades of long service. We loved being able to come together at the awards to reflect on their long service milestones and dedication they’ve shown to the people we support over the years.

Celebrating our exceptional people

It was inspiring to highlight just some of the individuals and teams who have made such a huge difference to the experiences of the people we support, and for their colleagues.

We also announced the overall winners or our Team and Individual awards for the year.

The event was sponsored by our partners, Rathbones, and held at their headquarters in London.

Colleagues from across Brainkind gathered together with our Executive Leadership Team and some of our Trustees, and enjoyed a delicious lunch, kindly provided by Rathbones, after the ceremony.

Thank you to all of you for your incredible passion for your roles and for the difference you make at Brainkind, for your colleagues and the people we support!
