Home / Wedding Bells at Shinewater Court – Andy and Jane’s Story
When Andy and Jane met at Shinewater Court, our service in Eastbourne, they both felt a connection.
At Shinewater, we provide accommodation and support for people with complex needs. Helping people to live fully, make their own choices, and form new relationships is at the heart of what we do.
So, when Andy and Jane decided to make their relationship official in 2023, we were delighted for them. After two years of planning and pre-wedding dates, Andy and Jane got married this summer.
When Jane moved into Shinewater for support in her day-to-day life, she wasn’t expecting to find love. That all changed when she met Andy in the service’s art room.
“We started doing art together”, Andy said. “I saw Jane on her scooter and thought, ‘this is my chance to talk and meet her family’.” Jane added: “Over time, our bond grew, and Andy asked me to be his girlfriend. I was really happy!”

At Brainkind, we know how important personal relationships are to rehabilitation. Our Shinewater Court service works hard to make sure that people are supported to spend time with people they care about – families, friends, and communities.
For Jane and Andy, this support manifests in various ways. Our support workers help with daily tasks, like cooking meals or washing and dressing. But they dedicate equal energy to helping the happy couple go out for lunch dates and beyond.
“I love it at Shinewater”, Jane said. Andy agreed: “I’ve been here a long time. Shinewater’s a really good place to be. There are activities on if we want to join. It’s all about having a choice and making friends.”

Andy proposed in 2023, and Jane was delighted to accept. Over the next two years, Jane and Andy’s families and friends helped them plan their big day. Our team at Shinewater Court were so excited for them – chatting about everything from decorations to dresses.
“My favourite part was when I saw Jane’s wedding dress,” Andy shared. “She looked beautiful.” “It was the best day of my life,” Jane added – “I loved all of it”.

Both are enjoying married life and still live together at our Shinewater Court service.
We are proud to have been able to support Jane and Andy as they found partnership and joy in each other. Helping people to thrive means supporting them through all of life’s twists and turns. Whether that’s dressing in the morning or getting married, we’re there for everyone who’s impacted by brain injury or neurological conditions. No matter what.
