Home > News > Brainkind welcomes new MP for Eastbourne to Shinewater Court
Brainkind staff and people support at Shinewater Court, were delighted to welcome Josh Barbarinde, the new Liberal Democrat MP for Eastbourne on Friday. He is also currently the Liberal Democrats’ spokesperson for justice.
Brainkind is a charity working with people with an acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.
Shinewater Court is a purpose-built centre offering accommodation and support to people with a range of disabilities, including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and disabilities resulting from accidents or stroke.
Brainkind staff offer compassionate, specialised person-centred care through a multidisciplinary team, led by psychiatrists and neuropsychologists. It includes a range of specialists including occupational therapists, physiotherapists and rehabilitation support workers.
Like all charities in the health and care sector Brainkind is facing many challenges but strives for clinical excellence with a multi-disciplinary approach. It is also launching a new fundraising and community engagement programme to recruit and support volunteers and embed its services into local communities.
Empowering people with disabilities is very close to my heart, which is why I particularly loved seeing the work of Anita and her Brainkind team at Shinewater Court in action. The support they provide to ensure people with acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions live with maximum independence and dignity is inspirational. I look forward to collaborating with them as Eastbourne’s MP – and we’ve already started organising a trip for some of their residents to come up to Parliament: Josh Babarinde, MP Eastbourne
I can honestly say it was an absolute pleasure to meet Josh Barbarinde MP on Friday, he was truly very interested with the work that Brainkind does, and was so engaging with the people we support, so much so that they have asked him to come back again: Anita Cobb, Manager Shinewater Court, Brainkind
Josh was attentive and prepared to listen and action our concerns, we hope he’ll visit us again so we can do a question-and-answer session with him: Dean Balstone, Shinewater Court.
Josh is a very nice man. He was asking us about our wedding and was very happy for Jane and I: Andy Cogan, Shinewater Court
