Angela Hardie wins CHAMPS Carer of the Year award

Congratulations to Angela Hardie, our Vocational Recreational Activities Coordinator at Victoria House in Hull, for winning ‘Carer of the Year’ at the 2025 CHAMPS awards.

The Caring, Helpful, and Amazing People (CHAMPS) awards celebrate amazing unpaid carers and the professionals who support them in Hull, recognising and thanking them for their incredible contributions.

Hosted by the Carers Information & Support Service on behalf of Hull’s Carers Partnership Board and held at the Guildhall, the event recognised carers who “make a significant impact on the lives of individuals, families, services, and communities.”

Speaking after her win, Angela said:

“I was so overwhelmed, to say the least, as the afternoon went on. I thought I had been shortlisted for unpaid carer, which had three nominees in each category. But, to my astonishment, I got the last top award being Carer of the Year.

“Nominations had come from friends and family as far afield as Australia. As soon as they started to talk about me, my heart was racing. I started to cry as they mentioned my sister Lynda and mum – I looked after before I lost them – my charity cycle work and my work at Victoria House and my volunteering here in Hull.

“By that time I was in bits, overwhelmed, and could not stop crying. I never in a million years thought I was worthy as there are others more worthy than me. But I am so humbled to think people recognise me even though it comes naturally, I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
