Julie Gannon, Team Leader at Brainkind’s Redford Court, a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre in Toxteth, abseiled down the Main Stand of the iconic Anfield stadium in Liverpool on Saturday 2 August to raise funds for specialist rehabilitation equipment to support people with acquired brain injuries.
Julie undertook the 100-foot descent past the famous Liver Bird crest on her 51st birthday to help raise funds for a Sabeo Glove – a specialist rehabilitation glove designed to help people with limited hand function regain their independence.
Julie set herself an ambitious £500 fundraising target. So far, she has raised £350 – over 70 per cent of the total – thanks to generous donations from dozens of supporters. There is still time to donate and help Julie reach her goal through her JustGiving page.
Speaking after the abseil, Julie said:
“Most people celebrate their birthdays with cake. I wanted to do something a bit different and give something back to the people I support in Redford Court – even though it was a nerve-wracking experience!
“Equipment like this could make a real difference to people with brain injuries, supporting their rehabilitation and helping them live more active, independent lives. I am so grateful to all those who have donated so far. But we still have further to go. So, I hope more people can dig-deep and help me reach this important fundraising target.”
Richard Barwick, Fundraising Officer at Brainkind, added:
“Julie’s determination to support others – even on her special day – is a testament to her compassionate, caring character and her true commitment to supporting people with acquired brain injuries to regain their independence.”
